Mathematics underpins our way of life and our prosperity. Its importance ranges from fundamental developments enabling new technologies, to theories backing up scientific research, to analyses of our physical and societal environments.
The program is designed for graduates with a bachelor degree and a strong foundation in mathematics. You will acquire advanced knowledge and skills in mathematics, and the capacity to use them to tackle complex problems in a variety of situations. The flexible coursework offering ensures that you can compose a program to suit your interests, from pure mathematics that develops the core theory, to statistics and applied and computational mathematics that extend this theory to bring practical solutions to real-world problems. All these fields contribute to a far-reaching and comprehensive master's program. The combination of coursework and project equips graduates of the program with advanced knowledge and skills that make them employable in industry, or prepare them for doctoral studies.

You need to satisfy the following entrance requirements to be considered for entry to this course.
Minimum Entry Requirements (Domestic students)
Qualifications
An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least a 65% average or equivalent qualification and experience approved by the faculty; and a 65% average over 4 units in mathematics of which at least 3 are at level 3.

You may apply to transfer from another Monash course. Transfers are a competitive process. You may apply mid-year for available courses however consideration will be given as to whether you will be able to follow your course progression.
Please note that if you apply for a course transfer, you should still enrol in your current course as if you were continuing so as not to jeopardise your enrolment in the Faculty if your transfer application is unsuccessful. More about Course Transfer.
