What you will learn

This fully online, short course will be offered over 12 weeks.

Learning and teaching activities:  

The unit will be taught by content experts over 12 weeks in a series of seven modules.

Case studies and practical exercises will inform discussions.  Students will be provided with reading material, and supplemental online resources to support their self-directed learning and assessment preparation

The online environment will encompass both synchronous and asynchronous modes for the delivery of theoretical content, teaching and learning activities and assessment instruments which are simultaneously summative and formative in nature.

The course is comprised of 8 modules:

  1. Advertising Current federal government legislation with regards to advertising non-surgical cosmetic treatments
  2. AHPRA - Current Medical and Nursing Board legislation for performing non-surgical cosmetic treatments
  3. Body Dysmorphia – Assessment, ethics and referral to a psychologist where necessary
  4. State, council and poisons legislation required for correct storage, handling, prescription, supervision requirements and administration of injectable or laser treatments
  5. Patient consent – The full patient consent in non-surgical cosmetic treatments
  6. Ethics - Ethical considerations in non-surgical cosmetic treatments for doctors and nurses
  7. National Governance framework
  8. Basic assessment of a patient suitability for a non-surgical cosmetic treatment – aesthetic ageing as a disease state and the basic suitable treatments for each indication - Skin treatments, lasers, Botulinum toxins and soft tissue fillers

The modules are delivered over a 12-week period involving a notional 144 hours of effort/workload.

Professor Greg Goodman AM (MBBSi, FACD, Graddipclinepi, MD) is an adjunct clinical professor at Monash University and an honorary professor at University College London. Author of over 170 publications and president of the Australasian Society of Cosmetic and Procedural Dermatologists.

Micheal Clague BSc is a leading nurse and medical educator and international key opinion leader and former Pharmaceutical executive.

Who can enrol in the course?
Applicants must be AHPRA-registered doctors (MBBS) or Nurses.

Is there an application process or can I enrol directly?

Are international scholars eligible to enrol?
Yes, international scholars are welcome to enrol, and we regularly have participants from around the world in our courses. Please note that webinars are scheduled in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) and Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time (AEDT), so we encourage international participants to consider time zone differences when planning to attend.

You’ll learn about:

How is the course structured?
This course is delivered over a twelve-week period including:

  • Regular live tutorials (2 hours every 2 weeks)
  • Eight core learning modules
  • Self-paced online activities and readings
  • Exams and scenario-based assessments

How is the course delivered?
This course is delivered online via HPEO Moodle, combining interactive modules, live tutorials, exams and self-directed learning. There are live tutorials to help you understand the content (every 2 weeks)

How many hours per week should I set aside?
On average, you should allow about 2 hours a week to watch online lectures.

Are there any in-person requirements?
Yes, there are tutorials every 2 weeks. The course is 100% online and self-paced.

What happens if I cannot attend a live session?
Whilst we recommend that participants attend each tutorial, these sessions are recorded and made available for you to watch later if you're unable to attend.

How am I assessed?
Assessment is via online exams, quizzes, and participation in tutorials. You’ll need to achieve at least 50% in all assessments to pass.

Do I get feedback during the course?
Yes. You’ll receive ongoing feedback via Moodle, including explanations for incorrect answers and suggestions for improvement.

Is this course accredited or recognised for CPD?
The course is designed to align with current AHPRA guidelines and CPD requirements. Nurses can record CPD points in line with NMBA standards.  Doctors will need to apply to their relevant college for CPD points.

What support is available?
You’ll have access to online support and can contact instructors with any course-related questions.

What happens after I complete the course?
You’ll receive a Monash University certificate of completion. Plus a digital badge to display.
