Monash Access Program

If you are motivated to learn and want to study at university, but don't meet the standard admission requirements, MAP may provide you with the skills and knowledge to gain access.

It prepares you for successful academic study at university level. It will give you a solid foundation to progress into a range of bachelor's degrees at Monash University.

How does MAP work?

MAP is delivered part time from May to November. You will study at the Clayton campus, with full access to all facilities including the library resources and student services.

What will you study?

Four units that will help you to develop skills in university learning, academic writing and mathematics:

  • Learning in a university context – this unit will help you understand what you need for success at university and help you to become an independent learner.
  • Mathematics for tertiary study – an introduction to key mathematical concepts to support you in your university studies.
  • Academic writing – learn how to put your ideas into words, how to write successful essays, reports and other assessment pieces.
  • Elective – you can choose a first-year unit from the degree you are interested in studying.

How do I apply?

To be eligible to apply for MAP, you must:

  • be 21 years or older on 1 January of the year you enrol
  • have not studied at university before
  • be either an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, holder of Australian permanent humanitarian visa, or a New Zealand citizen
  • have completed secondary schooling in English.

You can apply for the Monash Access Program directly to the university through online applications. When applying please use course code D0001. In addition all applicants must submit an online supplementary information form telling us why you want to study the MAP program. Applications for 2023 will open on Monday 2 January, 2023. Applications will close on Tuesday 14 March, 2023. Applications for 2023 will be assessed in March 2023 and short-listed applicants will be invited to interview between mid-March to early April. Offers will be released in mid-April.

What does MAP cost?

MAP is offered on a subsidised basis for eligible students. There are no tuition fees for the course however, you will need to pay for other items including books, stationery and travel. Priority will be given to students who have experienced financial or other disadvantage.
