All undergraduate courses have minimum academic entry requirements which all applicants must meet.
Individual course requirements can be found in both Monash Find A Course and VTAC CourseSearch.
Applicants with higher education study
To be considered on the basis of tertiary study alone, applicants who have completed VCE or equivalent will be required to complete the equivalent of one year (48 credit points) of a recognised university degree. For applicants who have completed less than the equivalent of one year of study, both the senior secondary qualification results and the units completed will be considered.
For applicants who do not have any formal qualifications completion of two single units at an Australian higher education or equivalent overseas educational institution satisfy minimum entry requirements, but more units in the areas of study related to the course in which admission is being sought are recommended to be competitive for selection.
Some courses may list extra requirements. These are course specific and may be applicable to Year 12, Non-Year 12 or all applicants. What you need to do will be clearly described in the individual course entry published in Monash Find A Course or VTAC CourseSearch.
Applicants with vocational education study
Satisfactory completion of an advanced certificate (Certificate IV or above) or diploma meets minimum requirements for some Monash undergraduate courses.
Scored or graded results are required. We cannot assess results with pass/fail or competent/not competent results.
Review the ‘Entry Requirements’ section of Monash Find A Course for course specific requirements for applicants with VET studies.
Applicants with recent secondary educations (within the last 2 years)
We requires all undergraduate applicants to Bachelor level courses admitted on the basis of a completed VCE, Interstate Yr12 or IB qualification (or equivalent international qualification) to achieve a minimum ATAR of 70 (or equivalent) after the application of any SEAS additional points. Most courses have a higher ATAR requirement.
Further adjustments to an applicant’s ATAR due to subject adjustments can only be applied if the applicant achieves the required ATAR after SEAS additional points are applied.
For courses that assess Year 12 applicants on the basis of a completed Australian Year 12 or IB an applicants ATAR (or notional ATAR in the case of IB) can only be adjusted on the basis of SEAS, or course specific subject adjustments which can be found in VTAC Coursesearch. Any such adjustments will be awarded to the applicant’s aggregate score and a new ATAR is calculated and used for selection.
All YR 12 applicants must also meet all published course prerequisites with their raw VCE study score and fulfil and additional course requirements published in Monash Find A Course or VTAC CourseSearch.
Some courses may list extra requirements. These are course specific and may be applicable to Year 12, Non-Year 12 or all applicants. What you need to do will be clearly described in the individual course entry published in Monash Find A Course or VTAC CourseSearch.
Applicants who are studying an Australian Yr12 in the current year and meet the specified eligibility criteria may be eligible for admission if they achieve a specific unadjusted ATAR score published for each course under the Monash Guarantee.
Applicants with work life experience
All applicants must meet at least one of the minimum academic performance thresholds outlined above.
Monash University does not admit students directly into undergraduate courses on the basis of non-academic criteria alone.
Inherent Requirements
Some courses of study at Monash require students to demonstrate inherent requirements to successfully complete the course. "Inherent requirements" are not entry requirements, but are fundamental attributes you may be required to demonstrate in a professional setting, such as ethical behaviour, interpersonal skills, behavioural stability and/or certain physical tasks.
Prospective and current students can contact the faculty of a course to find out if there are any inherent requirements, so that you can:
- determine if you may need support during your course; and
- make an informed decision about the suitability of the course you are considering applying for.
