Monash University Caulfield campus

The Monash Caulfield campus is located about nine kilometres from Melbourne's CBD. With buses, trams and trains all close at hand, the campus is both centrally located and well connected to public transport. The Caulfield train station is conveniently located just opposite the campus.

The University operates a free, regular inter-campus shuttle service between the Caulfield and Clayton campuses. Students who live on campus at Clayton and those who study at both campuses can easily commute back and forth.

You need not venture far to do your everyday shopping. A supermarket is located right next door to the campus, as well as a pharmacy, Asian grocer, bakery and a hairdresser. There's also a gift shop and other eateries.

Malvern Central shopping centre is just two kilometres from Monash's Caulfield campus and includes a supermarket and department store. The nearby shops on Glenferrie Road are also great for everyday shopping.

Also nearby is the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere, Chadstone Shopping Centre, located in the suburb of Chadstone a few minutes' drive away.

Towards the city, the elegant, leafy suburbs of Armadale, Toorak and South Yarra offer lifestyle and fashion outlets, specialty food and wine stores and galleries. Prahran Market on Commercial Road is great for fresh vegetables, meat, cheeses and more.


There's plenty to entertain students near Monash Caulfield campus. Catch a film at one of the big cinemas located at Chadstone or the Jam Factory on Chapel Street. Or if you'd prefer something less mainstream, there are great independent cinemas in Hawthorn East and South Yarra.

For a fun day out, join your friends for barefoot bowls in Caulfield Park or visit the sprawling Botanic Gardens in South Yarra for a walk or a picnic. During the warmer months, head to the Harold Holt Swim Centre in Glen Iris or catch the tram out to St Kilda to cool down by the beach.

Vintage lovers should visit the Camberwell Market on Sunday mornings to browse through hundreds of stalls selling everything from bric-a-brac and homewares to clothing and collectibles.

Come night, the bustling inner city suburbs of Prahran and St Kilda are full of pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants and bars to enjoy. And of course, the city is only a short tram or train ride away.

Eating out

There are enough eateries around Monash Caulfield to satisfy everyone's tastes. Students and staff have their choice of several great cafes on campus. There's also Mexican, sushi and kebabs.

Various off-campus cafes and eateries are located around Caulfield Station, and even more dining options can be found in the nearby suburbs of Malvern, Caulfield North and Armadale.

The closer you head towards the city, the more choices you'll find. From cosmopolitan South Yarra to cool Windsor, beachside fun in St Kilda to relaxed vibes in St Kilda East, there's everything from cheap and casual eats at pubs, burger joints, noodle houses and pizzerias all the way through to modern and fine dining.
