Laws and Art History and Curating - L3016

This double degree combines advanced and integrated knowledge of the principal areas of legal practice, legal concepts and broader perspectives about the law with deep engagement in art history, visual culture and curatorial practice. You’ll develop strong knowledge of the Australian legal system alongside skills in art interpretation, writing, criticism and exhibition-making. This interdisciplinary combination provides you with a professional degree which satisfies the academic requirements for admission to practise as an Australian lawyer and prepares you to operate effectively within the expanded field of art history, criticism, curating and cultural production more generally.

Non- school leavers: Monash applicants (via Internal Course Transfer)
Monash applicants - applicants who have partially completed an undergraduate degree must have completed the equivalent of one semester (24 points) or more of a recognised university degree and no more than the equivalent of two years of full time study (96 point); and achieved a distinction average or better across all the university units, irrespective of discipline. The distinction average is a minimum entry criteria to be eligible for admission, and the average will then be the basis for ranking candidates as part of a competitive selection process.

Non-School leavers: External applicants
Applicants who have partially completed an undergraduate degree must have completed the equivalent of one year (48 points) or more of a recognised university degree and no more than the equivalent of two years of full time study (96 points); and achieved a distinction average or better across all the university units, irrespective of discipline. The distinction average is a minimum entry criteria to be eligible for admission, and the average will then be the basis for ranking candidates as part of a competitive selection process.

Graduate entry requirements
Non-law graduates considering a career in the law are only eligible to apply for the Juris Doctor. The Faculty of Law does not accept single unit enrolments for undergraduate studies, except for cross institutional enrolments or for law graduates returning to complete units in order to practise in Victoria.

You may apply to transfer from another Monash course. Transfers are a competitive process. You may apply mid-year for available courses however consideration will be given as to whether you will be able to follow your course progression.

The best aspect of studying law at Monash is the community. As the Faculty of Law is small, students get to know most of their peers very quickly. Law students are also lucky enough to have the LSS run social events almost every other week, as well as a swathe of other events, before which really capitalise on the community aspect of studying law at Monash. While at Monash, I strongly suggest to get involved. Getting involved in extra activities will greatly improve your experience.
