Lead, Implement, Sustain: The Implementation Science Advantage - PDD1101

Effective implementation of evidence-based practices in educational, health, and community and disability settings is a complex undertaking. Without effective implementation the potential benefits of practices, models, and interventions and the outcomes are not experienced by those who need them the most. In many cases, practitioners with a track record of success are elevated into positions to engage in implementation coaching or implementation leadership without the necessary support and preparation in the specific stages, activities, and tasks of leading implementation with other colleagues.

The growing field of implementation science has identified and emphasised that these stages, activities, and tasks are specific to implementation itself and staff need to be supported to develop these specific implementation competencies.

Module 1: Introduction to Implementation Science

  • A primer in systems change
  • Introduction to implementation science frameworks and their underpinning ideas - Starting with the end in mind
  • Planning for sustainability
  • Introduction to a staged approach to intervention
  • Introduction to implementation drivers

Module 2: Engaging in a staged approach to implementation

  • Exploring outcomes and usable innovations for implementation
  • Understanding the role of implementation teams and improvement cycles as part of a -staged approach to implementation
  • The exploration stage: What is it and how do we explore?
  • Developing implementation drivers during exploration
  • The installation stage: What is it and what do I need to know to lead installation? - Developing implementation drivers during installation
  • Reviewing progress and establishing clear communication and feedback mechanisms

Module 3: Overcoming barriers and Coaching for Success

  • Identifying barriers relating to skill, resources, and motivation
  • Initial implementation: shifting from installation to initial implementation - Identifying common barriers to initial implementation
  • Strengthening implementation drivers for initial implementation
  • Full implementation: From initial implementation to business-as-usual
  • Enhancing drivers for long-term, local implementation success

Program structure

Self-paced online learning: 15 hours, delivered across three self-paced online modules.

This course references the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST): 6 and 7.

How long do I have to complete this course?

You have 12 months from the date of your registration to complete this program.

Is there a specific program start date, and are there any live classes?

No, this program is conducted via self-paced online learning on our Learning Management System, so there are no live lectures or scheduled class times - you can register into this program at any stage and complete the course online at times/days that suit you and at your own pace.

Once I have registered, when will I get access to the course?

You will receive access to the Learning Management System on the same or next business day. Please note that if you register on a weekend or public holiday, you will not receive access until the next business day.

My organisation would like to pay for my registration in this course via tax invoice. How do I go about organising this?

Please email us at edu.pdp@monash.edu advising us that your organisation would like to pay for your registration via tax invoice. We will email you an application form to fill in, and you will need to complete this and return it back to us with a copy of a purchase order from your organisation for the course fees. We can then complete your enrolment and organise a tax invoice.
