Architectural Design and Architecture - F6003

If you want to become an architect, you need to complete a total of five years of study: the Bachelor of Architectural Design and the accredited Master of Architecture. To make it easy for you, these degrees have been combined into one course, a vertical double degree- allowing you to meet the academic requirements for registration as an architect and setting you on your journey to start your professional practice.

Monash Architecture is all about the bigger picture, and how architecture integrates with urban design and urban planning. Examine buildings within their larger urban or regional environment and in the context of a changing planet. Develop future-forward skills and knowledge to contribute to the common good and to a sustainable and equitable world.

In these studio-based degrees, you’ll study all aspects of architecture. For more than half of your study you will be participating in studio learning, guided by industry experts or academics and collaborating with your peers in small groups to develop responses to a wide range of social and spatial issues. Studio learning replicates the way many architectural and design practices operate. You will also be able to select our internship elective to solidify these skills in the real world.

You’ll also learn how to visually communicate your ideas and responses – to clients, communities and/or policy-makers – through developing skills in visualisation, model making, digital fabrication and live presentation. You will learn to use the latest architectural software to ensure that you are prepared and ready to begin your professional practice.

Students undertaking this degree complete requirements for both the Bachelor of Architectural Design and the 2-year Master of Architecture.

The Bachelor of Architectural Design provides a pathway toward professional accreditation as an architect in Australia and sits under the frameworks set out by the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA). The Master of Architecture is professionally accredited and upon completion of all requirements of the Bachelor of Architectural Design and the Master of Architecture, you will have demonstrated the (AACA) National Competency Standards as applicable to university courses.
