16th Australasian Workshop on Econometrics and Health Economics
This workshop will provide a forum for the development and dissemination of applications of econometrics and other quantitative approaches in health economics. It will follow the format of the long-running European workshops on econometrics and health economics.
We are now calling for papers for presentation, with up to 14 papers to be accepted. Presentations by doctoral students and early career researchers are encouraged.
Papers accepted for presentation will each be allocated 50 minutes, including 30 minutes for the author’s presentation, 10 minutes for an appointed discussant and 10 minutes for general discussion.
The number of workshop participants is strictly limited and participants will be expected to attend the full workshop.

Keynote speakers
Prof Marcella Alsan, Department of Economics, Stanford University
Prof Alsan is the Annie and Ned Lamont Professor of International Studies, Professor of Economics, and Thomas J. Davis, Jr. Faculty Scholar at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR), where she founded and directs the Health Inequality Lab.
Previously, she served as the Angelopoulos Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. Prof Alsan received a BA from Harvard University, a Master's in public health from Harvard School of Public Health, an MD from Loyola University, and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University. She combined the PhD with an Infectious Disease Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Prof Alsan trained at Brigham and Women's Hospital, completing a High Global Health Equity Residency Fellowship. Her research on the causes and consequences of health inequality has been recognised with a MacArthur Fellowship. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and was recently elected Director for Northern America for the International Health Economics Association.
Prof Emilia del Bono, Professor of Economics, Institute for Social and Economic Research, University of Essex
In addition to her University of Essex role, Prof Del Bono is Director of the ESRC Centre for Micro-Social Change (MiSoC). As an applied microeconomist, her research focuses on health, education, family behavior, and life-course inequalities.
Prof del Bono's work employs rigorous econometric methods, including quasi-experimental designs, policy evaluations, and structural approaches, leveraging longitudinal surveys, administrative records, and primary data to identify causal relationships in complex social settings. She investigates how individual behavior, family environments, and public policies influence health, human capital, and socioeconomic outcomes.
Her recent health economics research focuses on early-life investments, women's health—specifically menopause, HRT, and well-being and school-based mental health, examining how teacher mental health and school policies impact children.
Published in top journals like the Journal of Labor Economics and Journal of Health Economics, Prof del Bono is a Fellow of the UK Academy of Social Sciences and former President of the European Society for Population Economics.
