Monash Business School’s Department of Banking and Finance is delighted to announce the Monash Winter Finance Conference 2024.

The conference will showcase and further develop Australian academic research in finance and associated fields

This workshop-style event will feature approximately seven presented papers. Conference participants are expected to have read all conference papers in advance and be prepared to contribute suggestions for improvement.

Each paper will have a discussant, and there will be around half an hour devoted to questions and suggestions from the audience.

We welcome academics in the finance and associated fields to attend, registrations is essential

Papers View

Paper approval process

We will select seven quality papers to be presented, each with a discussant, followed by half an hour of questions and suggestions from the audience, who are expected to have read the papers in advance.

We will prioritise papers that can be substantially improved by feedback from the discussant, and the open discussion afterwards. Our academic panel will comprise experts in all the major finance disciplines, both local and overseas, and is supported by a dedicated local organising committee.

The presenting author must be based in Australia. There is no restriction on the affiliation of any co-authors. Presenters and discussants will have their travel to Melbourne and accommodation covered (up to a reasonable amount).

Paper submissions

Submissions of papers in all areas of finance are welcomed until 31 May 2024, and papers must be submitted via email to monash-winterfinance@monash.edu

Submitting authors will be notified of their outcomes in late June.

We look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne.

Best Paper Award

There will be two best paper awards sponsored by S&P Global of $1,500 each.

Feedback from 2023 attendees

(I liked) the seminar style of the conference, which had amazing Q&As. Equally important, it was a great opportunity to reconnect with great finance researchers in Australia.

(There was) active involvement from the audience, everyone read the paper before attending, (there were) friendly Monash faculty members, (a) very unique workshop-styled conference.

The unique format of short presentations (was) followed by extensive discussions among participants. Since (some) participants thoroughly read the papers beforehand and lead the discussions, the feedback provided to presenters was valuable and insightful. As a presenter, I personally benefited a lot and received the most valuable inputs so far. For that, I am grateful to the conference organisers' efforts.

The format was very interesting. Giving most of the time to audience members who actually read the papers provides a lot of value to the presenters.

The conference is well organised, and the sessions are well structured. I really enjoyed the 30-minute audience discussions.
