Launch of Accounting Week 2023
Accounting Week 2023 will showcase the Monash Business School Accounting team’s leading research, education and impact capabilities.
This year’s theme will be Accounting for global challenges, focusing on fostering thriving communities, consistent with Monash University’s Impact 2030 strategy..
Our launch event on Day 1, for alumni, industry practitioners and academics, will explore the role of accounting in addressing global challenges, and its contribution to fostering thriving communities.
Terence Jeyaretnam, Partner at EY and EY Asia-Pacific Climate Change and Sustainability Services Leader, will deliver a plenary, followed by a panel discussion including Dr Sasha Courville, Chief Impact Officer, Bank Australia.
The launch event will also highlight leading research conducted by the Department of Accounting team, and its impact by addressing complex real-world issues.

Terence Jeyaretnam
Mr Jeyaretnam is Partner and APAC Leader of EY’s Climate Change and Sustainability team, based in Melbourne. He is an environmental and sustainability advisory and assurance specialist with over thirty years’ experience in advising governments and corporations on sustainability issues.
Until its acquisition by EY in 2014, Mr Jeyaretnam was Founder/Executive Director of Net Balance, which was Australia's largest standalone sustainability and climate change practice at the time, one of Australia’s first B Corporations and twice-rated by Business Review Weekly as one of the 100 fastest-growing companies in Australia.
Mr Jeyaretnam is a member of the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board of Australia and is a non-executive director of Amnesty International Australia, Fairtrade Australia/New Zealand, Food Frontier and Global Citizen (Australia).
He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern Queensland, and a Technical Working Group member of ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board).
Dr Sasha Courville
Dr Courville is Bank Australia's Chief Impact Officer, leading the sustainability, impact, strategic planning, corporate affairs and marketing teams in delivering the bank's commitment to create positive impact for people and the planet.
Prior to this role, Dr Courville was Executive, Social Impact at NAB, where she led efforts to embed sustainability into group strategy, focusing shared value responses to society’s biggest challenges. She led NAB’s climate action strategy including setting decarbonisation targets across its lending portfolio in line with the Net Zero Banking Alliance. Dr Courville was responsible for overseeing NAB’s natural disaster resilience efforts, reconciliation action plans, Accessibility Action Plan and integrated reporting.
Previously, Dr Courville was Executive Director of ISEAL Alliance, a London-based global association for sustainability standards and assurance systems. She has also worked as an international consultant on social justice and environmental sustainability issues in soft commodity sectors, and as an academic based at the Regulatory Institutions Network at the ANU. Dr Courville was deeply involved in setting up the Fairtrade labelling system in Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Courville is an Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research Commissioner, and Independent Director and Chair of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative. She has a PhD on coffee from the ANU, an MSc from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from York University in Canada.
