Professor Utz Schäffer

Prof Schäffer is a full professor of Management Accounting and Control and Director of the Institute of Management Accounting and Control (IMC) at the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management. He studied business administration at the WHU, the EM Lyon and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in Chicago.

Prof Schäffer’s research focuses on controlling and strategy execution, in particular the role of controllers and the digital transformation of Controlling. His research has been published in several top-tier journals such as Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, European Accounting Review, Management Accounting Research, Management Science, Journal of Management and Governance and Strategic Management Journal.

He is also a reviewer for various scholarly accounting journals, co-editor of the Journal of Management Control, and Controlling & Management Review editor. He is co-author of the leading German-language textbook Einführung in das Controlling (17th edition) which has since been translated into Chinese, English, Russian and Polish.
