The presentation will give an overview of DFAT's engagement in international health at global, regional and country level; look at the different ways of working in Southeast Asia and the Pacific; and address the current need to balance immediate support for pandemic preparedness and response and longer-term health sector development.

Speaker

Jane Pepperall is a Senior Health Advisor in the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). She is a senior health professional with extensive experience of global policy development and of supporting national health sector development in the Pacific, Asia and Africa.

Jane has been working for the past six years as Senior Health Adviser in the Australian development program. She provides strategy, policy and technical health advice to DFAT’s Development Policy Division in Canberra and to various DFAT country programs.

Prior to working with DFAT, Jane worked for the UK’s Department for International Development for 20 years, including long-term health adviser postings in Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and in DFID’s regional Pacific office in Fiji.

Jane has an undergraduate degree in Biological Anthropology from Cambridge University and a masters in Health Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
