The Algorithm Will See You Now – A multi-method study
This presentation will focus on the design and implementation of the NHMRC-funded project The Algorithm Will See You Now (TAWSYN), which focuses on the ethical, legal and social implications of using artificial intelligence, especially machine learning systems, for diagnosis and screening. The focus will be on the design of this multi-method study, which includes interviews, dialogue groups, DCEs (run from Monash CHE), stakeholder engagement activities and a deliberative democratic process. We will consider the unique contribution made by each method to the knowledge gain of the project, synergies between components of the design, and strategies used to assist publics to engage with technologies that remain broadly speculative. In the latter part of the presentation we will focus on the theoretical grounding, methodology and unique contribution of a deliberative democratic process which will form one of the last, capstone activities of the project.
For this seminar, Professor Stacy Carter will be joined by Dr Maame Esi Woode and Dr Udeni De Silva Perera from CHE, who are collaborators on TAWSYN.
