CERN APAC Continuous Conference 2025: Setting the circular economy agenda in the Asia-Pacific
The global transition to a circular economy (CE) relies on complex collaborations and partnerships across disciplines and stakeholders.
With this in mind, CERN APAC is presenting a continual conference series in 2025, commencing with this first event in March.
Featuring an expert panel, our event will comprise collaborative discussions across various sectors, with CE experts to advocate the significance of, and set the agenda for CE in the Asia-Pacific region.
Established in 2022, the Circular Economy Research Network Asia-Pacific (CERN APAC), is an interdisciplinary ecosystem of circular economy researchers from academia and industry.
CERN APAC founding members are RMIT University, Monash University, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), and Swinburne University of Technology.
CERN APAC fosters collaboration between CE researchers, building CE research capability, communicating CE research outcomes, and championing CE.
We look forward to exploring and developing the crucial CE industry in 2025.
Host
Professor Usha Iyer-Raniga, RMIT University
Usha Iyer-Raniga is Professor, Sustainable Built Environment at the School of Property and Construction Management, RMIT University. Usha is co-lead of the Circular Built Environment (CBE) working group established under the GlobalABC / One Planet Network’s Materials Hub hosted by UNEP and jointly implemented by UNEP, UNOPS and UN Habitat. The circularity research and engagement under the One Planet Network and GlobalABC responds to SDGs 12, 13, 15, 9, 8, 7, 6, and 17.

Panel
Professor Lynette Cheah, Chair of Sustainable Transport, University of the Sunshine Coast
Prof Cheah leads the Sustainable Mobility research lab, which develops data-driven models and tools to reduce the environmental impacts of passenger and freight transport. Her expertise is in transport modelling and simulation, life-cycle assessments (LCA), and urban metabolism. She is an author of UNEP’s Global Environment Outlook report and UN IPCC’s Special Report on Climate Change and Cities. She obtained her PhD in Engineering Systems from MIT and her Master’s in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.
Tania Hyde, Chartered Engineer, Technical Director and Circular Design Lead, Beca
Ms Hyde has 25 years of international experience delivering infrastructure projects. Since 2020 she has incorporated circular economy thinking in her work, challenging how we build infrastructure within the planetary boundaries. Ms Hyde co-designed Beca's Circular Design Framework, which delivers a holistic approach of cultural perspectives, circular economy, climate change and socio-economic outcomes to projects.
A/Prof Hong-Quan Nguyen, Director, Institute for Circular Economy Development, Vietnam National University
A/Prof Nguyen has an interest in inter/trans-disciplinary study on sustainability-related subjects. He has (co-)authored about 100 ISI/Scopus papers and serves as editor of several journals.
