Panel Discussion: Enterprising Women
Presented by: Department of Management and Critical Re-orientations of Organization and Society (CROS) research group.
This inaugural event is designed for enterprising women interested in talking about women’s enterprising activities, whether they be social entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs or small business owners, as well as policy makers and researchers
In Australia, the number of businesses founded by women increased over the last 20 years, with about a third of female small business operators being born overseas. Women’s enterprising is visible through blogs, social media and websites, yet there is little research about it. It is known that many women have found an outlet for their entrepreneurial activities in smaller enterprises that provide more flexibility than in the corporate world. However, in small enterprises, processes are often informal and issues of equity and fairness may impact on those who work in and manage small enterprises.
The event is an opportunity to shine a critical and inclusive light on women and enterprise and discuss some key questions:
· Does engaging in enterprise/social enterprise truly empower (all/some) women?
· What do enterprising women need to support their activities?
· What resources do they have access to and what can help them gain better access?
· Are there particular barriers that limit some groups of women from engaging in and making a success of their enterprise?
· What can policy makers do to support women in enterprise?
Please join us to explore these issues relating to the nature of women’s enterprising in Australia, including key challenges, opportunities, and what is needed to support ongoing participation and success.
