Starting the journey to being part of the circular economy
Are you a business owner, or work in the manufacturing sector, and looking to understand more about the circular economy? Recycling your waste is just one step in a circular economy, which focuses on creating a closed ‘loop’ around the way you use resources and energy to manufacture your products and manage the outputs (such as waste and packaging), to deliver a regenerating system.
Among the key benefits of a circular economy is less waste, reduced environmental impacts and less resource scarcity, which leads to cost savings and alternative revenue sources.
This online forum will provide valuable information on how your business can improve its current practices, identify opportunities and access available economic support and resources. It is proudly supported by Sustainability Victoria, the South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance (SEMMA) and South East Business Networks (SEBN).
At this session, we will explore the benefits of being part of a circular economy with industry speakers and practical case studies from local businesses.

Our speakers
Gavin Smith
Gavin has been president and chairman of Robert Bosch Australia since 2011. He is also a director of The Yield, an agriculture technology company in which Bosch has a strategic stake, a director of Alkane Resources (ALK) and Australian Strategic Materials (ASM), an industry advisor for the CSIRO, and a member of the Victorian Skills Authority’s Advisory Board.
Angela Stubbs
Angela has held a senior position in the City Economy and Innovation department at Kingston Council for 12 years. In the past two years, Angela has enabled the delivery of a Circular Advantage online education program to lead companies to understand and implement circular economy innovation into their business models.
Cameron McKenzie
With decades of experience in the construction industry, Cameron has a deep understanding of the manufacturing and engineering sectors. Cameron is the CEO of ASPIRE – an online marketplace for business waste exchange. He was the winner of the Fillion Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence when studying in Switzerland and was also granted the Circular Economy Award for winning the Australian Technologies Competition in 2019.
Steve Morriss
Steve is the founder of Close the Loop (established in 2000), a product stewardship/circular economy company that specialises in closing the loop on consumer products including toner cartridges, cosmetics and electronic products. Close the Loop was a finalist in “The Circulars” awards by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2019. Steve is the inventor of Tonerplas, a high performance asphalt additive made from waste plastics.
