The EU-South Korea trade labour dispute
Hear from international labour regulation expert Dr Jill Murray as she discusses the EU-South Korea trade dispute.
Dr Murray was the Chair of the panel of experts established to consider the dispute, which was only the second time a country had pursued a formal complaint against a trade agreement partner under labour provisions. The expert panel led by Dr Murray considered the dispute, and issued its report on 25 January 2021.
First used by the US in the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), labour provisions are now included in many countries’ trade agreements. But these provisions remain relatively untested and uncertain.
The expert panel considered the interpretation and application of the labour provisions, which are of great interest to both trade and labour lawyers as they cut across international trade regulation and efforts to ensure international protection of labour rights.
During this event Dr Murray will answer questions on the EU-South Korea trade labour dispute pursued under the EU-South Korea Trade Agreement.
Please email any questions that you would like to ask Jill to nicola.charwat@monash.edu. Spontaneous questions will also be welcome during the session.
