Monash Actuarial Program now "triple-recognised" in global first
6 March 2025
The Monash Actuarial Program has become the first in Australia to be accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) in the UK, the world’s oldest actuarial professional body.
Prof George Athanasopoulos, Head of the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics (EBS), said the program had now achieved “triple recognition” by all the three major global actuarial professional bodies (UK, US, Australia), making it the first program worldwide to attain this prestigious status.
The IFoA's Education Committee in late 2024 approved the award of an Accreditation by Subject Agreement (ASA) to the program, run by the Department of EBS.

This was a testament to the rigour and excellence of Monash Business School's actuarial courses, Prof Athanasopoulos said, thanking the actuarial team.
"We are grateful to our actuarial team, led by our Director of Actuarial Studies Professor Jackie Li, and supported by other dedicated staff, including the tireless efforts of Prof Brett Inder, Prof Dan Zhu and Mrs Julie Cook".
Over the years, the Monash Actuarial Program has consistently produced professional actuaries who have excelled in their careers, making significant contributions across insurance companies and financial institutions globally, Director of Actuarial Studies Prof Li said.
“We are absolutely delighted to receive this prestigious endorsement from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries," Prof Li said.
"It highlights the rigour and relevance of our actuarial courses and provides our students with a significant advantage as they embark on the challenging yet rewarding journey of becoming actuaries.”
The IFoA came into being on 1 August 2010 as a result of the merger of the Institute of Actuaries (established in 1848) and the Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland (established in 1856).
