Webinar | Microgrid Roadmap
This sixth webinar in the Net Zero series focused on the pathway and process to establish a Microgrid.
With funding through DELWP, Monash has undertaken work to understand the value proposition presented by microgrids to Victoria and to provide regulatory, policy, and market reform recommendations. In August, the Net Zero Initiative launched the Microgrid Development toolbox and Monash University's future plans to help others on their microgrid journey.
In this webinar, panel members Scott Ferraro (Program Director, Net Zero Initiative, Monash University), Craig Chambers (Managing Director, Engevity), and Céline Klemm (Research Fellow BehaviourWorks Australia), shared learnings from the Microgrid Electricity Market Operator project and the roadmap for establishing a microgrid.
Scott shared the roadmap developed by Monash and the tools to support the development of new microgrids. Craig discussed the opportunities for microgrid in Victoria highlighted the drivers that influence customer thinking and locations that might benefit from the systems. Céline shared key insights from their research on the user experience and key considerations when engaging people to support the development of Microgrids.
Karen Freidin (Engagement Manager, Monash Net Zero Initiative) hosted this event.

Meet the speakers
Scott Ferraro
Program Director of Monash University’s Net Zero Initiative
Scott is a leader in net zero-emission strategy development and implementation, with a deep understanding of the opportunities to reduce emissions across the energy, transport and buildings sectors. Currently, Scott and his team are focused on transitioning Monash’s Australian operations to net zero emissions by 2030. The program aims to find translatable solutions to enable the broader transition to net-zero emissions required under the Paris Agreement.
Craig Chambers
Managing Director, Engevity
Craig has over 25 years of experience in the energy sector, his diverse background includes pioneering distributed and renewable energy innovation to founding a vertically integrated utility start-up, in addition to leading corporate strategy, innovation, stakeholder engagement, regulation and pricing for Australia’s largest utility group. Craig has supported Monash over the last few years to consider its market entry strategy, developing a future expansion roadmap and regulatory reform consultations.
Céline Klemm
Research Fellow, PhD, BehaviourWorks Australia
Céline is a behavioural scientist with experience working across diverse research projects in the areas of environmental sustainability and human health. Her research investigated topics such as consumer choices for circular products, priority areas for behaviour change for climate adaptation, or how communication during a pandemic influences risk perception and preventive behaviours. Currently, Céline is involved in a project looking into the role of human behaviours in microgrids.
