2026 Election of Vice-President to Academic Board

The Academic Board is the University’s principal academic governance body, established by Council under section 20 of the Monash University Act 2009. It is responsible for the maintenance of high standards in education and research, informing Council on academic matters, and supporting the University’s compliance with the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021, particularly in academic governance. The Board also supports alignment with other legislative requirements that govern higher education in Australia and in overseas jurisdictions where Monash operates.

Nominations are invited to fill two Vice-President positions on Academic Board.

We're seeking nominations for:

one Vice-President for a two-year term, commencing on 1 January 2027; and
one Vice-President to fill a casual vacancy for a one-year term, commencing on 1 January 2027.

Nominations open at 10am (AEST) on Tuesday 15 September 2026 and close at 5pm (AEST) on Tuesday 29 September 2026.

Submit a nomination

Eligible Academic Board members are invited to submit their nomination by completing the online nomination form.

Under Part 5, regulation 14(2) of the Monash University (Council) Regulations, to be eligible for election as Vice-President, a candidate must:
- be a member of the academic staff;
- hold the rank of associate professor or above; and
- be nominated by two other members of Academic Board.
Eligibility requirements, together with information about the nomination process, are outlined in the Notice of Election.
There are binding election procedures and campaign principles which underpin the conduct of the election. If you are participating in this election you must read these governing documents as they set down the expectations and requirements for students who take part in the election.

Complete the relevant online nomination form available above by 5.00pm (AEST) on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
There will be no physical handling of nomination forms for this election. All forms must be submitted electronically.

If two or more valid nominations are received, an election will be conducted via electronic ballot between 10:00am (AEDT), Tuesday 6 October 2026 and 5:00pm (AEDT), Tuesday 13 October 2026.

The candidate who receives the highest number of votes will be offered the two-year term, and the candidate who receives the next-highest number of votes will be offered the one-year casual vacancy.
Voting will be conducted electronically using a secure online voting system.
Eligible voters will receive a personalised voting link via their Monash email account. For further information about the voting process, review the Academic Board Election Procedure.
