As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Monash Law Clinical Program, our mission to deliver transformative legal education and access to justice continues to guide our strategic development. The generous contributions of our funding partners have empowered us to reach more people, respond to complex needs, and create meaningful change in the lives of those we serve.

Support from the Commonwealth and State Governments, and Victoria Legal Aid, remains foundational to our Professional Practice and Family Law Assistance Programs. These programs are often a lifeline for individuals and families navigating the legal system without the means to engage legal help. The Litigant Support Fund, made possible by the Pratt Foundation, has significantly enhanced our ability to assist our clients through the engagement of barristers and the provision of other external legal support services.

This year, funding support meant that we were able to respond to specific legal needs through a range of dedicated clinics:

  • Monash Tax Clinic, supported by the Australian Taxation Office, provided critical assistance to vulnerable clients facing taxation issues.
  • Mediation services for families in need were made possible through the generosity of the Cybec Foundation.
  • Legal Assistance in Regional Victoria was supported again by the Cybec Foundation, offering assistance to clients in Central and Northern Victorian regions in areas such as family violence, infringements and at Bendigo Law Courts.
  • Our cohealth clinic, supported by a private benefactor, offered vital help to clients dealing with complex sociomedical and legal challenges.
  • Climate justice work was advanced through the support of Mr Ernie Chow and Dr Gwen Hinze, enabling us to address emerging legal needs in the face of environmental change.

We are also deeply grateful to Russell Kennedy Lawyers and Lander & Rogers for their continued provision of secondee lawyers, bringing subject matter expertise that enhances both our service delivery and student learning.

Technology is the backbone of modern legal practice, and thanks to the ongoing support of Mr Cary Stynes, our clinics remain equipped with the tools needed to serve clients effectively and train the next generation of legal professionals.

This milestone year has resulted in much reflection and reconnection with alumni, clinic partners and clients. It has been gratifying to hear about the significant change that clinic work has had on those that pass through the program. Behind every clinic, every case, and every student experience, is a network of supporters who believe in equity, access to justice and the power of legal education to change lives.

To our staff, volunteers, partners, and donors — thank you. Your support ensures that we can build on our significant legacy to continue to deliver services, restore dignity and educate the next generation of legal professionals.
