cohealth Monash Legal Assistance Service Clinic
The cohealth Monash Legal Assistance Service Clinic is designed to address many of the health harming legal needs faced by people who live with chronic health problems. Students will work closely with a senior lawyer and health professionals to assist, advise and advocate for clients with a range of legal issues such as debt, family violence, advanced care directives, enduring powers of attorney, medical treatment decision maker documents, wills, housing and tenancy issues and social security.
Lawyer Assisted Family Dispute Resolution Clinic
Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) is a type of mediation which helps separated parents resolve disputes in relation to children with the assistance of an impartial mediator called a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP). In the Lawyer Assisted Family Dispute Resolution Clinic, students assist the supervising lawyer from Monash Law Clinics in a lawyer-assisted FDR (LAFDR) session and represent one of the parents during mediation. The other parent will be represented by another lawyer from another Community Legal Centre (CLC).
Integrated Services for Survivor Advocacy Clinic
The Integrated Services for Survivor Advocacy Clinic is designed for students who have developed an interest during Professional Practice in supporting victims of sexual assault. Students will undertake casework in conjunction with ISSA staff as needed. The clinic is intended for emotionally mature students who see themselves as potential criminal lawyers (whether acting for the prosecution or defence), as well as students interested in personal injury law and other areas of law that involve dealing with vulnerable and marginalised populations.
South East Monash Legal Service - Professional Practice
South-East Monash Legal Service (SMLS) runs a clinical legal education program in conjunction with Monash University’s Faculty of Law, with law students undertaking a practical placement at the legal service as part of their undergraduate degree. Students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the law and its application in the community, government and commercial world. This clinic also leads to improved graduate employability driven by the skills and knowledge gained through participation. It also offers students the potential to be involved in meaningful and high-profile law reforms.
Family Violence Clinic
The Family Violence Clinic is designed for students who are interested in assisting victims of family violence by attending the court on family violence list days and assisting the duty lawyer and to help clients make victims of crime applications to the Victims of Crime Tribunal.
Social Security Rights Victoria Clinic
Social Security Rights Victoria is a specialist community legal centre which provides information, advice and advocacy in the area of social security law policy and practice. Social Security Rights Victoria advocates for a guaranteed adequate income for all people in the community by promoting the rights and raising the status of all people in receipt of Social Security.
ATO Tax Clinic
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) provides a tax clinic as part of its operations under the National Tax Clinic program.
National Justice Project Clinic
The National Justice Project Clinic provides students with a unique opportunity to undertake a work placement at a university-run legal clinic focusing on the dynamic and ground-breaking work of the National Justice Project which aims to end systemic discrimination in Australia through strategic litigation, advocacy, education and outreach. Students work under the close supervision of a lawyer-teacher on real-world active social justice matters in small groups.
New AI Clinic in Monash Law’s Legal Technology Clinics
A collaboration between the Monash Clinical Program and leading law firm Lander & Rogers is putting law students at the intersection of technology and legal services. The new AI Clinic is part of a suite of Legal Technology Clinics giving Monash Law students practical experience in the legal careers of the future.
