Leadership with the Faculty

Who we are

Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee is comprised of professional staff, academic and student representatives.

Terms of reference

  1. To ensure the Faculty’s vision and strategies for equity, diversity and inclusion are committed to, and informed by, recognition and respect for Indigenous Peoples, cultures and knowledges.
  2. To build a culture of, and advance a deeper awareness of, equity, diversity and inclusion within the Faculty through action, events and initiatives.
  3. To ensure that equity, diversity and inclusion issues, policies and best practice are considered and embedded in all areas of Faculty governance and activities.
  4. To monitor staff and student equity, diversity and inclusion issues and outcomes with particular reference to their background, their life experience, their status, and/or their protected attributes (including:  disability; indigeneity; race and ethnicity; sex; sexual orientation; gender identity and expression; sex characteristics; health and pregnancy; age; neurodiversity; language diversity and ability; religion; cultural and religious expressions; caring and familial status; employment or enrolment type; socioeconomic status; citizenship and nationality), upholding at all times an understanding of the intersectional nature of these protected attributes.
  5. To identify, and advocate for change regarding, structural and systemic barriers to inclusion, recognition and career and study progression that affect particular staff and students because of their background, their life experience, their status, and/or their protected attributes (as above).
  6. To advise the Faculty Executive on issues of equity, diversity and inclusion, ensuring engagement with Monash University’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Framework 2022 - 2030 and supporting its Enabling Plan, in particular the Framework’s goals:
    1. Strong collaborative partnerships across the University.
    2. Enhanced community knowledge to support equity, diversity and inclusion.
    3. A diverse community at all levels of the organisation.
    4. Dismantled barriers through structural change.
    5. Enhanced intersectional data, reporting and evaluation.
  7. To develop and oversee a strategic Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan for the Faculty, and monitor and evaluate performance on achieving aims and objectives related to equity, diversity and inclusion with specific focus on intersectional data collection and analysis.
  8. To liaise with the Faculty Education Committee regarding equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of education (including curriculum, module design, assessment and pedagogical practice).
  9. To liaise with the Faculty Research Committee regarding equity, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of research.
  10. To liaise with the University’s DLU (Disability Liaison Unit), UHS (University Health Services) and Employee Assistance Unit and to recommend best practice responses to the needs of Faculty, students and staff with disabilities.
  11. To act as a representative advocacy body for staff and students on issues of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  12. The Committee will meet a minimum of four times per academic year.
