About Us

Technology is changing the landscape of the court and legal systems. Legal technology solutions play a key role in enabling more efficient, cost effective and broader access to justice across society.

The Future Courts Research Platform is dedicated to researching the impact of technology on the court and legal systems, and educating the next generation of legal service providers.

The Platform’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure, along with its collaboration with other Monash research platforms and centres provide researchers with a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary research.

Vision

  • Increase community access to justice by improving the quality and cost of law court services; and,
  • Enhance the experience of court users by improving the physical and psychological setting of courts and tribunals, and the processes and rituals of justice.

Mission

  • Focus on interdisciplinary research into a range of technologies and how they can improve access to justice and the court experience for those that use the services of the courts;
  • Identify best international models in court services and arrange opportunities to work with other jurisdictions and share our research;
  • Provide thoughtful analyses of current court policies in areas such as security, access, and fairness;
  • Design new systems of delivering court outcomes that improve access to justice or improves the court experience for court users; and,
  • Provide a venue where we can test out proposed innovations in court services within experimental settings and thereby supporting orderly implementation of change.

Our people

Affiliates of the Future Courts Platform bring together a diverse range of experience from different areas of law and industry and also includes members of Monash Law's Australian Centre for Justice Innovation and Transnational Law Group.
