MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

The 2025 Academic Year Student Prize Ceremony is an opportunity to recognise the care, persistence, and curiosity that have shaped your studies and to honour the communities who have walked alongside you. Each name we celebrate represents late nights and early mornings, questions asked and answered, challenges met with grace, and a growing confidence in your capacity to engage in society through the law.

This ceremony is also an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to families, friends, mentors, academics and Monash Law staff whose encouragement has made a difference. Your belief in our students has helped turn potential into practice. To our partners across the courts, law firms, community organisations, and public institutions - your collaboration enriches our teaching and expands our students’ horizons. We are grateful for your support and are proud to share this journey with you.

What these prizes recognise is not simply marks on a page but the habits of mind and heart that underpin competent and ethical legal practice. Clarity, kindness, courage, and careful judgement; to name just a few. Whether your next steps are in a courtroom, a community legal centre, a policy team, a boardroom, or a research centre, carry those habits and those values with you. They will anchor you in moments that demand both intellect and humanity.

My warmest congratulations to every recipient and to all who supported them. Let this moment be a reminder of what you can achieve when you combine skill with purpose, and ambition with service. We look forward to the paths you will forge, the communities you will strengthen, and the good you will do.
