The Library Node
What is the Library Node?
The Library Node is a room containing a small collection of textbooks from the Monash University Library, which have been set for postgraduate units run at the Law Chambers. Books are available for three hour loan.
Postgraduate law students can also place 'Requests' for books held at Library branches (via Search) to be sent to the Node for pick up, borrowing, and returning.
The Node is not a staffed branch of the Monash University Library. It has been established for the convenience of Law postgraduate students, so please help to keep it tidy and remember to borrow the books when you remove them from the Library Node.
Where can I find the Library Node?
On Level 1, opposite Student Services at the Law Chambers, Melbourne. Note that the Law Chambers is only accessible to Law postgraduate students with swipe access on their student ID.
How do I borrow and return books?
A Self Loans/Returns terminal is located within the Node. You will need your student ID card to borrow items. These are recorded on your Library record.
When is it open?
The Node is available to Law postgraduate students during Law Chambers opening hours (generally 8.30am-5.30pm Mon-Thurs and 8.30am-5.00pm Fri during trimester).
A secure After Hours Returns unit is placed outside the Student Services counter whenever the Library Node is closed. Books can be returned into the unit at these times only. Staff will return the books and reconcile any related fines, usually the following day (or Monday if returned after 5pm on Friday). Please check your loans record and contact the Law Library if there is a problem.
How do I get books from the Library sent to the Law Chambers?
Books held at Monash University Library branches, including the Law Library, that are not restricted by short-term loan, may be requested online by Faculty of Law staff and postgraduates via Search. Sign-in to Search first, find the record for the book, and select the Request tab. Select Library node at Law Chambers as the pick-up location. When the book arrives at the Node, an email notification will be sent to you. Books are shelved alphabetically by last name and removed after 7 days if not collected.
How long will it take to get a book?
The Monash courier service delivers to and picks up from the Law Chambers every weekday (Mon-Fri). Please note that it usually takes 2-3 days (excluding weekends) for the book/s to be transported between the Law Library at Clayton and the Law Chambers. Delays may be experienced, depending on the location and availability of the item.
