Professor The Hon Marilyn Warren AC KC

Professor the Hon Marilyn Warren AC KC is the former Chief Justice of Victoria (2003-2017). Earlier she was a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria (1998-2003) including sitting as the Judge in Charge of the Commercial List and the Corporations List (now combined as the Commercial Court). Whilst on the bench, Marilyn Warren sat in all jurisdictions, trial and appellate, and extensively in commercial cases.

She presently sits as a domestic and international commercial arbitrator. She is a member of the Dawson Chambers Senior Arbitrator Group at the Victorian Bar.

Marilyn Warren is a Vice Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow of Monash University. She is a member of the Monash University Global Leaders’ Summit. She is involved in teaching commercial law and international arbitration in the Monash University Law Faculty graduate programs as Professor.

Marilyn Warren has been a member of the Victorian Bar since 1985. She was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1997. She was admitted to practise in 1975.

The Hon Marilyn Warren was the Lieutenant Governor of Victoria (2006-2017). She has held the position of Chair of many institutions and bodies including the Courts Council of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, the Judicial College of Victoria, the Victoria Law Foundation, the Council of Legal Education and the Council of the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine.

Professor the Hon Clyde Croft AM SC

Professor the Hon Clyde Croft AM SC was a Commercial Court Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria from 2009 to 2019 in charge of a General Commercial List, the Arbitration List, the Taxation List and Retail Leases Act appeals.

Prior to his judicial appointment he practised at the Bar in numerous Australian jurisdictions and was appointed a Senior Counsel in 2000.  His areas of practice were primarily in property, equity and commercial law, and international and domestic commercial arbitration. He has appeared in the higher courts, statutory tribunals (including VCAT) and arbitration tribunals, acted as an arbitrator in commercial arbitration disputes (including major construction and engineering disputes), in Australia and internationally, and was involved in other forms of alternative dispute resolution including mediation, expert determination and negotiation. Professor Croft was also an international arbitrator - “door tenant” - at Falcon Chambers, London, and is now a member of Falcon Chambers as an international arbitrator and mediator. He is also practising in these capacities based at Dawson Chambers, Melbourne.

Professor Croft’s previous Government appointments include: Secretary [Department Head] Northern Territory Department of Law (Attorney-General’s Department) and Crown Solicitor/Solicitor for the Northern Territory (1986 - 88); Executive Director, Law Reform Commission of Victoria (1986); and Assistant Secretary (Policy Coordination), acting as Deputy Secretary, Law Department (Attorney-General’s Department), Victoria (1984 – 1985). He has also provided extensive legal and policy advice to various Australian Governments in his areas of expertise, particularly in the field of arbitration.

Professor Croft holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and is the author of numerous books, journal articles and conference papers, primarily in the areas of commercial tenancy law, mortgages, equity and commercial arbitration. He is a Life Fellow of Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA), a Life Fellow of the Resolution Institute, a Fellow [Arbitration] of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of NZ (AMINZ), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London), a Fellow of the UNCITRAL Coordination Committee for Australia (UNCCA) and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. In the 2019 Australia Day Honours Professor Croft was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) For significant service to the law, and to the judiciary, particularly through commercial arbitration.

Dr Drossos Stamboulakis

Drossos' teaching and research interests span international private law, with a focus on commercial dispute resolution, private international law, contract law, and private environmental regulation and governance.

He completed his doctorate at the University of Melbourne. His thesis comparatively analysed the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in civil and commercial matters. He also holds a European Masters in Law and Economics from Rotterdam, Bologna and Haifa Universities, and an LLB (1st Class) and BCom (Economics) from Monash University.

He is admitted to practice, and has worked previously: at King & Wood Mallesons, in the arbitration and commercial litigation teams; at the Hague Conference on Private International Law; and, as an Associate to the Hon. Justice Croft in the Commercial Court of the Supreme Court of Victoria. Drossos has also received certifications in Private International Law from the Hague Academy of International Law (the Hague) and from the International Academy for Arbitration Law (Paris).
