Our story

The most significant advances in healthcare technology are increasingly the result of collaboration between Health and Medical Researchers, Engineers, Designers, and IT specialists - which is why the Monash Institute of Medical Engineering (MIME) was formed.

MIME fosters links between the faculties of Medicine, Engineering, IT and Design and with a range of industry and medtech ecosystem partners. Through our unique partnership with Monash Partners Academic Health Science Centre we work directly with clinicians to identify unmet medical needs and provide seed funding, commercialisation support and education for promising research and researchers.

Vision

MIME’s vision is underpinned by three strategic pillars:

  1. Health and social impact
  2. Workforce capacity building
  3. IP discovery and translation

In achieving MIME’s vision, MIME initiates opportunities for collaboration between healthcare professionals (via direct connection with MIME’s clinical and academic partner, Monash Partners), community members, researchers, students, government and industry.

MIME does so through:

  • networking and affinity events
  • targeted seminars
  • early stage project funding
  • ongoing project support
  • student research support
  • developing and promoting opportunities for entrepreneurship and commercialisation training
  • stakeholder and peak body engagement
  • attracting funding, and
  • raising awareness of funding opportunities for our partner researchers.

MIME’s novel approach brings unique value to the currently fragmented MedTech landscape and feeds into the investment pipeline.

From our establishment in 2014, MIME has delivered high impact health and MedTech products and created innovative IT solutions which have become integrated into routine healthcare around the world.
