Biodesign and MedTech Commercialisation Workshops

Working on an exciting clinical need?
Figured out a great solution?
Want to learn more about MedTech strategy?

As a natural follow-on to our Foundation of Medical Technology Innovation course, MIME has launched advanced masterclasses to introduce innovators from within our clinical and research networks to the third and final stage of Biodesign – implementation.

Once you have thoroughly understood your unmet clinical need and identified a solution, it is essential to understand and work through a series of concepts beyond simply the problem you identified, and your proposed solution – this is implementation.

Biodesign implementation requires innovators to assess if the "stars align" on their project, namely that their clinical, technical and operational strategy will provide them sufficient opportunity to succeed. These considerations should be completed before significant time, money and effort are expended as the problem and solution usually need to evolve as the strategy develops.

Masterclasses cover the following topics:

Regulatory Strategy

  • What are the main regulatory bodies globally, and how do they operate?
  • Does my product require regulatory approval? If so, how do I determine my product classification?
  • How do I craft my regulatory strategy?

Intellectual Property Strategy

  • What are the main concepts I need to know about IP and patents?
  • How do I assess freedom-to-operate and patentability?
  • How do I capture my invention?

Commercialisation Strategy

  • How do I think about commercialisation?
  • What business models should I consider, and why is this so critical?

Reimbursement Strategy

  • How does reimbursement work?
  • What is coding, coverage and payment?
  • How do I craft my reimbursement strategy?

Operating Strategy

  • How does venture capital work?
  • How do I plan my exit strategy?
  • How should I deal with equity and investors?
  • How do I bring everything together into a coherent roadmap?
