Invent Support
MIME Invent Support
The MIME Invent Support Program supports the development of new medical technologies that address significant unmet clinical needs. With our collaborators from the Monash Partners network, we work in partnership with clinicians, healthcare workers and administrators, and researchers in fields of IT/digital health, engineering and human-centred design to develop new medical technologies to solve these unmet healthcare needs.
The aim of Invent Support is to provide funding to enable research teams to conduct a body of work which will achieve a milestone that enables them to be competitive for major external funding opportunities. In parallel to applying for and using Invent Support funding, MIME intends to work with applicants in a range of ways to assist identification and development of subsequent funding opportunities.
Who should apply?
Through providing targeted funding for project teams, ‘Invent Support’ is an integral part of MIME’s program that collectively enables us to work together to solve the unmet clinical challenges that are at the heart of our work. Anyone who is an employee of one of MIME’s partner faculties may apply as the primary applicant. We strongly encourage cross-faculty collaborations, and expect that any applicant team will include a clinician and/or healthcare professional as a core member of the applicant team who has expertise in the relevant field.
MIME is tasked with and dedicated to supporting our project teams to achieve healthcare impact. We do this through providing knowledge and resources to move ideas and research forward, towards becoming products which can be used to solve these clinical problems. We fund projects where applicants demonstrate a desire to see their research translate to real world solutions. This involves demonstrating an understanding of the requirements needed to achieve this, and the project team engaging with MIME to further develop this understanding.
Through this program, we are interested in supporting projects and teams working on any medical technology ranging from TRL 1 to TRL 4. Direct research funding is just one branch of MIME’s Invent program; based on applicant’s needs MIME’s assessment panel may direct you to other paths for support, as well as further external funding programs where appropriate.
How much funding is available?
MIME will usually fund up to $50,000. We will fund this amount, and potentially more, only in exceptional circumstances, and clear justification must be provided for any funding amount.
