Overview

This two-day masterclass (also see September 18 listing) covers what clinical innovators “need to know” about medical technology strategy, including four modules:

  • Regulatory Strategy (FDA, CE and TGA Approval)
  • Intellectual Property & Patents
  • Commercialisation Strategy (Business Models & Venture Capital)
  • Reimbursement Strategy (Medicare Funding)

Who Should Attend?

The Masterclass has been designed for innovators with an existing unmet clinical need and potential solution, including digital health, devices and diagnostics or for those simply looking to upskill in medical technology strategy regardless of role.

Instructor

Associate Professor Khoa N. Cao - MBBS(Hons), BMedSc(Hons), MPH (London), MS Eng (Stanford)

Khoa Cao

Khoa is an Associate Professor of Medicine & Engineering at the Monash School of Medicine and the Monash Institute of Medical Engineering and the Director of the Monash Medical Technology Laboratory. Khoa trained in medicine at Monash and Austin Health, public health at London and engineering at Stanford as a Fulbright Scholar, where he graduated from Stanford Biodesign and was advised by Professor Paul Yock, the Founding Director of Stanford Biodesign. Khoa has previously founded an investor-backed medical technology start-up in Silicon Valley and worked in medical technology at the WHO, IBM, Oxford, UCSF and Stanford. He has also consulted for a number of medical technology start-ups and incumbents, including Medtronic, Boston Scientific and Philips.

Cost

We require a co-contribution of $1650 in total (Day one and Day two) or $550 per module from Masterclass attendees to cover costs of participation. This cost is subsidised in part by the Monash Institute of Medical Engineering.

Early-bird pricing (20% discount for all options) is available for those who submit applications by Monday 29 July AND register by Friday 2 August.

Scholarship opportunities

50% discount scholarships are available for Monash University staff with an FTE ≥ 0.5. Full scholarships may also available for current medicine, engineering, IT and design students through departmental support.
