Anita Castan Foundation team Launch

A new partnership between the Anita Castan Foundation and the Monash Institute of Medical Engineering will help inspire and equip the next generation of healthcare innovators, providing students with hands-on experience tackling real-world healthcare challenges.

The Anita Castan Foundation and the Monash Institute of Medical Engineering (MIME) have launched the Anita Castan Foundation Future MedTech Leaders Program, an initiative designed to support emerging innovators and strengthen Australia's future MedTech workforce.

The program will provide Monash undergraduate students with opportunities to work alongside leading researchers, clinicians and industry experts, developing the skills and experience needed to translate innovative ideas into healthcare solutions with real-world impact.

Delivered through a partnership between MIME and the Monash Young MedTech Innovators (MYMI), the program introduces students to the biodesign innovation process and the rapidly evolving MedTech sector. Participants will gain practical experience across areas including medical devices, digital health, diagnostics, artificial intelligence and personalised medicine.

Founder of the Anita Castan Foundation, Anita Castan, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to investing in future leaders and supporting innovation that improves lives.

"I've always been inspired by Monash's ability to turn bold ideas into real-world impact. Through the Anita Castan Foundation Future MedTech Leaders Program, I hope to support the next generation of innovators who will tackle some of our greatest healthcare challenges and create positive change for communities in Australia and around the world."

"I believe that investing in people is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting change. The future of healthcare depends on courageous thinkers, innovators and problem-solvers, and I hope this program empowers students to pursue ideas that improve lives and make a positive impact."

Professor Patrick Kwan, MIME Co-Director, said the partnership represents an important investment in Australia's innovation future.

"Innovation starts with people. Through the generosity and vision of the Anita Castan Foundation, this program will provide students with opportunities to develop the skills, confidence and networks needed to become the healthcare innovators of tomorrow."

"By bringing students into multidisciplinary teams and exposing them to real clinical challenges, we can help accelerate the development of solutions that improve patient care and health outcomes."

Professor John Forsythe, MIME Co-Director, said the initiative highlights the value of collaboration between philanthropy, academia and healthcare.

"Addressing the complex healthcare challenges of the future will require talented people working across disciplines and sectors. This partnership creates a pathway for students to engage directly with researchers, clinicians and industry partners while contributing to projects with the potential to make a meaningful difference."

"We are grateful to the Anita Castan Foundation for its support and shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of MedTech leaders."

The Anita Castan Foundation Future MedTech Leaders Program reflects a shared vision of creating opportunities for talented students while strengthening Australia's capacity for healthcare innovation and translation.
