  • Describing things, actions and events

Most academic writing requires some informative description. Accurate descriptive writing will lay the groundwork for you to develop critical analysis and evaluation in your writing.

  • Adopting a critical position

Adopting a critical position involves presenting an organised, well-researched and well-developed argument. The aim is to inform and persuade others of your point of view on a particular topic using effective language.

  • Writing about theory

Theories in academia are abstract frameworks explaining phenomena. They challenge or expand knowledge and are expressed in text, formulas, or visuals. Writing links abstract ideas to real-world examples.

  • Writing about data

This resource provides guidance on how to write about data in a way that communicates ideas with clarity and impact.
