Manga Library

The JSC Manga Library was established in November 2002 as part of Monash University’s Japanese Studies Centre and is the first venue of its kind in Australia to provide both opportunities of education and entertainment through the incorporation of Japanese popular culture, making Japanese manga available to students and non-students alike. This innovative space continues to provide a unique environment in which Japanese popular culture can be easily accessed. The library is currently run by local and international students at Monash.

The library offers an extensive collection of over 7000 Japanese manga and other related texts such as magazines and novels. The library provides an exclusive environment and opportunity to access popular Japanese culture from the past and present.

Our manga collection

The Manga Library houses a huge collection of over 7000 manga spanning most genres, including Shounen, Shoujo, Seinen and manga classics. Our collection also holds over 700 manga in English as well as a selection of bilingual manga. We also have a great collection of manga for beginner readers such as Doraemon and Chibi Maruko-chan.

The collection is now available to browse online here.

The Manga Library is a free reading library. To borrow Manga you must have a valid membership, which you can sign up for online here. Teachers and Academics have free borrowing privileges, as well as active volunteers.

We are happy to accept good quality second hand and previously owned manga via drop off or post. Please contact the library ahead of time if you would like to arrange a time to drop off a donation.
