Carlos Uxó

Carlos Uxó is a Senior Lecturer in Spanish and Latin American Studies at Monash University, Australia. He completed a PhD at La Trobe University (2009) with a thesis on representations of Afro-Cuban characters in Cuban narrative fiction, followed by his monograph Representaciones del personaje del negro en la narrativa cubana. Una perspectiva desde los Estudios Subalternos (2010).

His research focuses on representations of Afro-Cuban characters in Cuban novels, internet policies in Cuba and, more recently, on Cuban crime fiction. He edited the first book published outside Cuba on Leonardo Padura (The Detective Fiction of Leonardo Padura Fuentes, 2006), and has published numerous articles on contemporary Cuba.  He is currently working on a monograph tracing the history of Cuban crime fiction, which has led to a broader interest on crime fiction in Communist countries (and a world-wide search for collaborators for research on this topic).
