The Monash Japanese Language Education Centre has produced some teaching and learning resources which are available for purchase.

New resources available

Year 12 Japanese Second Language Practice Examination

We have 2 x 2024 VCE Practice examinations available for purchase. (Link below)

Both exams come with the exam (student booklet) and a teachers' booklet that includes all the transcripts of listening texts and suggested answers. This year we have  also included sample answers to the writing section questions.The listening section texts have been professionally recorded and are as the actual exam with two playings including pauses so there is no need for teachers to press repeat.

MJLEC Compilation Listening, Reading and Writing Tasks for Senior Secondary Students of Japanese

These texts and tasks have been compiled from past MCJLE/MJLEC Year 12 Practice Exam (2013 to 2018). They are compiled here as listening, reading and writing comprehension texts and tasks grouped in the headings of Themes and Topics and listed under the heading of Listening, Reading and Writing.

The resource includes a range of themes, topics and text types typically taught at the senior secondary level. Script titles and text types are indicated in the index. Teachers may consider using some of the scripts that are not conversations as reading material.

Included in this resource are listening and reading texts and writing tasks. The purchaser will have access to download the following product through their Shop Monash account dashboard:

Writing Rules 2021 

This booklet provides guidance about conventions of the text types that students may be expected to produce in the external examination and for the school-assessed coursework (SAC).

These text types are indicated on page 13 of the Japanese Second Language: Victorian Certificate of Education Study Design (VCE Japanese Second Language.

• Units 1 and 2: 2019–2024
• Units 3 and 4: 2020–2024

Section one presents identifiable conventional features of each text type.

Section two introduces basic rules of how to use genkouyoushi.

Section three shows a partial example of each text type written on genkouyoushi using a relevant format.

The information given in this resource is for guidance only and not intended to be definitive. This booklet is not endorsed by Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) but produced by MJLEC in response to a request from teachers of senior secondary Japanese Second Language.

Listening Tasks for Intermediate Secondary Students of Japanese

• This resource provides 35 tasks; a variety of tasks types, text types and topics relevant to intermediate (Year10) secondary Japanese second language.
• This is a completely new resource and all tasks are relevant to curricula around Australia.
• The tasks are organised under level of difficulty.
• The resource includes, listening recording, listening script, task sheet and answer sheet.
• For the first time we are offering these as a download to make it easier and more convenient for teachers.
