Customised learning programs create lasting corporate partnerships
“Once we determine exactly what issues an organisation needs to address, we can develop a customised curriculum that can be directly applied so tangible benefits are clear and immediate,” says Professor Alex Christou, Director of Corporate Education and Strategic Partnerships at Monash Business School.
“One of the things we are most proud of is our ability to listen to and collaborate with an organisation to co-create a complete view of potential challenges and opportunities.”
Just as every organisation is unique, so too is the bespoke curriculum developed for each corporate client within Monash Business School Corporate Education, where Prof Christou leads a team of academic and corporate leadership specialists.
“At the core of our philosophy lies a commitment to combining theory with actual, practical application,” Prof Christou says.
“This commitment is on display within Monash’s carefully co-designed, highly customised Corporate Education learning journeys and initiatives, where the emphasis is always on meeting the specific needs and challenges faced by organisations navigating today’s dynamic business environment.”
The ‘absolutely critical’ discovery phase
The “customisation journey” begins with an in-depth needs assessment, which helps establish a close collaboration between Monash Business School and its clients, Prof Christou says.
This collaborative methodology ensures the resulting learning intervention is directly applicable to the unique industry context of each of our clients, he adds.
Discovery of a company’s challenges may be achieved by identifying key organisational players and gathering their insights through targeted surveys, interviews, and group discussions. This process informs the development of relevant, impactful learning objectives aligned with organisational goals.
Interventions may then span anything from one-on-one consulting with a subject matter specialist to more traditional leadership development - whatever is required to “lift that organisation to the next level.”
“The initial consultation phase is absolutely critical to better understand the organisation we’re working with, their strategic goals, challenges, and what success looks like for them,” Prof Christou says.
He adds that Monash Corporate Education’s ethos is grounded in its multidisciplinary approach to program and learning design, plus co-creation of highly relevant content built on the latest research and practice, which all utilise a diverse range of subject matter experts.
“We know that a contemporary organisation demands a fusion of skills from diverse fields, so we always integrate insights from various disciplines to create a holistic and comprehensive learning experience,” Prof Christou says.
“This interdisciplinary focus enriches course content and equips participants with a well-rounded understanding of the issues encountered in their professional spheres.
Emerging challenges: Value of the cross-faculty approach
Despite drawing on Monash Business School’s diverse range of academics to design customised curriculums for Monash Corporate Education participants, “we know that we won’t always have the answers to every issue an organisation is encountering,” Prof Christou says.
Organisations are fast discovering they need to digitise their operations, integrate new technologies and harness the power of data analytics and artificial intelligence, he says.
“New leadership attributes we need to see in a modern-day workplace are also emerging, particularly in a world where remote and hybrid work environments are front-and-centre.
“We’re also seeing a growing demand for businesses to operate sustainably and ethically, addressing all the different environmental, social and governance issues emerging on a daily basis.
“These issues, in combination with the unique characteristics of different industries and sectors, mean we need to lean on academics from a range of Monash University faculties to ensure we’re delivering a top-quality curriculum for businesses.”
Collaborative, peer-to-peer learning
Monash CE places great importance on fostering a collaborative learning environment for participants. Acknowledging the value of peer-to-peer interaction, Monash Corporate Education programs often feature group activities, case studies and practical exercises, says Prof Christou, adding that this collaborative ethos aims to stimulate creative thinking, encourage the exchange of ideas and cultivate a culture of continuous learning among participants.
“We’re really good at delivering engaging and impactful learning experiences, whether through traditional modes or simulations, gamification or digital platforms. We’ve got all the pedagogies and capabilities to do that,” he says.
“We also believe it’s really important to be flexible and adaptable in terms of our delivery of the learning intervention; certain delivery methods might not be suitable for an organisation and their day-to-day work, so we need to work around that and make it right for them.”
The ethos of Monash Business School extends beyond the corporate education classroom, highlighting a commitment to a lifelong learning journey.
Not ‘fleeting engagements’
Monash Corporate Education’s customised learning interventions and programs are not fleeting engagements, but rather part of an ongoing relationship with corporate partners, Prof Christou says.
Through post-program support, follow-up sessions, and access to updated resources, Monash Corporate Education partner organisations, and their leaders, continue to grow and evolve in their professional journeys long after the formal education program concludes.
Monash Corporate Education’s distinctive ethos in customised corporate learning interventions sets it apart as a leader in providing tailored education solutions, Prof Christou says.
"By prioritising practical application, embracing a multidisciplinary approach, staying ahead of industry trends, fostering collaboration, and promoting inclusivity, Monash Corporate Education shapes a path for professionals to thrive in the ever-evolving business landscape."
