Set a passcode on your smartphone
Protect your smartphone with a passcode to keep your personal information and University data safe. Monash University requires passcode protection for all University-issued devices.
To set a passcode, follow the instructions on Apple's support page: use a passcode with your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
For extra security, you can set your iPhone to automatically erase all data after 10 failed passcode attempts. Be sure to back up your phone regularly if you choose this option.
- From the home screen, tap Settings.
- Choose Touch ID & Passcode, then enter your passcode.
- Turn on Erase Data.
To set or change your passcode on a Samsung Android phone, go to the Samsung phone manuals page and choose your phone model to find instructions.
Setting a strong passcode
- Choose a unique number sequence that's memorable for you but challenging for others to guess.
- Avoid simple passcodes like 0000, 1234, or your date of birth.
If you forget your passcode you'll need to reset your smartphone, which will erase all your data – so it's important to regularly back up your phone.
