Set up mobile tethering or a hotspot

Using mobile tethering or a personal hotspot is simply sharing your mobile phone's internet connection with other devices, like your laptop or tablet. If you have a Monash-supplied smartphone with a suitable data pack, tethering or using a hotspot can be cost effective (as you won't have to pay for a separate mobile broadband service or buy additional hardware just to get your laptop connected).

Keep in mind that sharing your phone's internet connection without a sufficient Mobile data pack or while overseas can be very costly – you can discuss your requirements with our mobile provider Solve communications (see the Help section for contact details).
