Monash Law's Moot Coach, William Lye OAM KC celebrated the result, exclaiming that before they even got to the quarter finals, the team had competed in two gruelling days of back-to-back moots and judging from 10am to 8.30pm.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the largest moot court competition in the world with around 700 law schools in 100 countries competing. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. Every eligible school is allowed to submit only one team to the competition. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.

In the weeklong lead up to the quarter finals, Monash Law's moot team beat the University of Melbourne and the Australian National University, but lost to the University of Sydney and University of Wollongong.
This is a significant result for Monash Law as it's the first time we've made it to the quarter finals since Monash Law's Moot Coach, William Lye OAM KC started working with the Jessup unit. Previously, the highest Monash Law ranking in the Jessup was 9th place.
In the quarter finals, the Monash Law team competed with Macquarie University who had won all 4 rounds in the Preliminary Rounds. Monash Law won the coin toss and tactically chose to be the Respondent as they had won two of their Respondent rounds.
From Monash Law and on behalf of the Monash Law mooting team, congratulations to the Macquarie University mooting team for winning our quarterfinal and going on to win the Grand Final. Congratulations also to runners-up the University of Sydney.
