Low Fee Rate

The instrument usage cost is heavily subsidised by Monash University. A low fee rate applies to the Monash staff and students who are working on internal University projects.

The current 2026 low fee rate for MXP instruments are listed as below,

XRD (D8 Advance, D8 Cobalt, D8 Eco, D8 Discover): $44/hr;  XRD (SmartLab & Moly): $54/hr;

SAXS (N8): $44/hr;  SAXS (NanoSTAR): $54/hr;

XPS: $65/hr;

XCT: $80/hr;

XRD training Package: $500  (for all XRD diffractometers and some conventional advanced techniques).

SAXS training Package: $500 (for all SAXS instruments)

XPS Training Package: $500

XCT Training Package: $1000

Advanced techniques training packages are available separately.

Staff time rate: $80/hr (for client jobs done by MXP staff)

This low fee rate represents a small fraction of the real cost of maintaining and operating these instruments and of the cost of providing expert staff to train and support users.

Standard Rate

The standard rate for instrument booking by an industrial supported Monash researcher or an Australian publicly funded researcher,  which represents a fraction of the real cost of maintaining and operating these instruments. All charges are GST exclusive.

XRD/SAXS: $90/hr

Nexsa XPS: $110/hr

Zeiss XRM520 XCT:  $140/hr

Staff time $140/hr

Industrial Rate for commercial entities

External industry clients should contact the Manager to discuss their instrument needs.

Important Note to Monash University Staff: Undertaking external work at the internal charge rates may be both a breach of University policy and illegal under Trade Practices Act administered by the ACCC. Monash University Staff or Students who need to undertake work using MXP facilities on behalf of an external client must discuss this with the Manager well in advance of when they plan to start the work.
