Exploring problem-based STEM teaching and learning approaches
STEMinar Series 2019
Monash Education
Description
Problem-based learning (PBL) is commonly used as a STEM pedagogy. This way of working, however, presents challenges to teachers, such as finding an authentic and meaningful problem and giving sufficient attention to each of the STEM disciplines.
This STEMinar unpacks elements of a problem-based learning scenario through a workshop-based approach where participants investigated an authentic STEM problem. The STEMinar took a practical approach to learning about STEM pedagogy where audience participation was encouraged. An experienced panel representing each of the STEM disciplines unpacked the different perspectives contained in the problem, to highlight the knowledge and ways of working that are similar and different in the STEM disciplines.
