How can I apply for a male or female only hall?
While most of our accommodation facilities are mixed, if it is important for you to live in a gender specific area/floor/cluster, we may be able to assist you. You could choose the Shared Apartments options in Clayton such as the South East Flats or the Shared Apartments at Peninsula Village. Make sure that in the 'additional preferences/requests' section of the application you state your requirement for a single gender apartment.
At Clayton some halls have single-gender areas/floors/clusters. Make sure you advise us of your preference for single-gender accommodation in your application. Alternatively, you can contact us on mrs.applications@monash.edu and your application will be updated to reflect your preference.
Please note that in all residences, everyone has their own private lockable bedroom.
How can I apply for an en-suite room?
If it is important for you to have a room with an en-suite, you should consider applying for a Studio apartment. You should consider the difference in the cost of each of these options as rates do vary.
In the Traditional Halls of Residence, there are a very limited number of en-suite rooms. These rooms are only offered at a later date once we have addressed the requirements of all our current residents, so we cannot be sure that your request will be fulfilled.
Another option may be the South East Flats at the Clayton campus, or the shared houses/units at the Peninsula Residential Village which will give you the option to share a bathroom with only your flatmates.
I want to be close to my friend, how do I put this in the application?
If you are applying for a shared house/flat style of accommodation within the Clayton South East Flats or the Peninsula Residential Village you will have the option to include your friend preferences during your application.
If you are applying for halls, you and your friend can both email us at mrs.applications@monash.edu to advise that your preference is to be allocated to the same hall and we will update your application to reflect your preference. We will do our best to assign you and your friend a room close to each other, but cannot guarantee it.
Can I choose my room and hall?
We will do our best to try and meet your preferences, however we are bound by availability and cannot assure you that your first preference will be met.
Only the Studio Apartments at Clayton and Peninsula campuses offer an opportunity for residents to choose their preferred studio apartment . If you receive an offer for a studio apartment, you may be invited to select your preferred studio, depending on when your offer acceptance deadline is. If your acceptance deadline is January or later, there will be limited availability of studio apartments so the Admissions Office will pre-select a studio apartment for you.
At the Residential Village and in the Shared Apartments/flats, the rooms are assigned by the College Heads and they will take into account your preferences. As outlined in our Admissions Policy, and stated in our Mission Goals, we will endeavour to ensure that each residence maintains a vibrant, positive and diverse community of residents.
