Off-campus renting guide
Knowing your rights as a tenant
When you rent a property in Melbourne, you’ll generally need to sign a rental agreement. It’s important to know your rights as a tenant, as well as your responsibilities. Here are a few things you can read to help you understand how it all works:
- The Consumer Affairs Victoria webpage for international students. Information on your rental rights and responsibility is also available in more than 20 languages.
- The Tenants Victoria webpage promotes and protects the rights of renters.
And of course you can always get in touch with us with any specific questions.
Sticking to a budget
Managing your finances as a student can be tricky, especially if you’ve never lived out of home before.
It’s a good idea to have a think about how much you’re likely to spend in a month, or a year, and then compare it to the money you’re bringing in. If your costs are more than your income, then you need to keep costs down.
There are lots of different online budget planners you can use. Or you can get in touch with Monash Connect on your campus for help on loans and finance help too.
