Staying over summer

As a current resident, you may be able to remain living on-campus over the summer period, December 2026 to February 2027.

Your summer accommodation options depend on your current 2026 residency agreement, and whether you are offered a 2027 residency agreement (if applicable).

Applications for summer accommodation (December 2026 to February 2027) open 8 September 2026 and can be submitted via the Resident Portal

Important summer accommodation information

If you’re considering staying on-campus over summer, please note the following:.

Construction of the Larkins Hall will be taking place near Deakin Hall, Farrer Hall, Howitt Hall, and Roberts Hall.
The following will be closed over summer for maintenance

Depending on your summer accommodation arrangements you may need to move to another. Which could be at another accommodation location. In this case you must also move all of your belongings with you.
If you move to a different room type, you’ll be charged the applicable accommodation fees for that room for the period you stay there.

52-week Gillies Hall or Clayton Urban Community

Stay for all of summer
- Move to your summer room in Samada Street on 7 December 2026, then move into your new studio on 16 December 2026.
- Your room will be allocated by the Accommodation office.
Stay for part of summer
- Move to your summer room in Samada Street on 7 December 2026, and stay until a date of your choice (no later than 16 December 2026).

48-week Gillies Hall or Clayton Urban Community

Stay for all of summer
- Move to your summer room in Samada Street on 7 December 2026, then move into your new studio on 13 January 2027.
Stay for part of summer
- Move to your summer room in Samada Street on 7 December 2026 and stay until a date of your choice (no later than 13 January 2027).

42-week Residential Village

Stay for all of summer
- Move to your summer room in Samada Street on 7 December 2026, then move when your new 2027 room is ready in early February 2027.
Stay for part of summer
- Move to your summer room in Samada Street on 7 December 2026 and stay until a date of your choice (no later than 25 January 2027).

52-week Gillies Hall or Clayton Urban Community

Stay for all of summer
- Stay in your current room, then move into a new Gillies Hall or Clayton Urban Community room on 16 December 2026. This room will be allocated for you by the Admissions Office.
- Your room will be allocated by the Accommodation office.
Stay for part of summer
- Stay in your current room until a date of your choice (no later than 16 December 2026).

48-week Gillies Hall or Clayton Urban Community

Stay for all of summer
- Stay in your current room, then move into your allocated Gillies Hall or Clayton Urban Community room on 13 January 2027.
Stay for part of summer
- Stay in your current room until a date of your choice (no later than 13 January 2027).

42-week Residential Village

Stay for all of summer
- Stay in your current room.
- If you are allocated a new room for 2027, you must move when your new 2027 room is ready in early February 2027.
Stay for part of summer
- Stay in your current room until a date of your choice (no later than 25 January 2027).

Frequently asked questions

Applications for summer accommodation (December 2026 to February 2027) open on 8 September 2026.
No. Monash University Accommodation does not provide storage services. If you choose to vacate your room at the end of your residency agreement and not stay over summer, you will need to make arrangements to store your belongings.
A number of self-storage providers are located near Clayton campus, including Monash Self Storage and Notting Hill Self Storage.
Please note that Monash University Accommodation does not endorse any particular provider, and takes no responsibility for your belongings while being moved or in storage.
No. In accordance with the Conditions of Residency, sub-letting is not permitted.
Yes. You can leave earlier, but you’ll need to make arrangements for your room key and belongings before you leave.
You must return your room key to the Accommodation Office before leaving and choose one of the following options:
1. Nominate a trusted third party to move your belongings on the applicable transfer date:
  - 7 December 2026 – transfers into Residential Village summer accommodation
  - 6 January 2027 – transfers from a studio apartment to a new 2027 room
2. Clear all belongings from your room before you leave if you are unable to arrange someone to complete the move on your behalf.
Your room key must be returned to the Accommodation Office before you leave, regardless of which option you choose.
