When do applications close?
There isn’t a specific closing date, however if we receive an overwhelming number of applications we may close applications in order to better manage expectations.
Rooms are offered based on the date of application submission so we recommend applying as early as possible when applications open.
Is there an application fee?
No. There is no cost to apply for on-campus accommodation.
I don't have a course offer yet, can/should I apply for accommodation now?
Yes. You can apply for on-campus accommodation before you receive your school results or your offer to study at Monash University.
There is no application fee and rooms are offered based on the date of application submission so we recommend applying as early as possible when applications open.
Can I apply for both the Residential Village and the Urban Community?
No. You can only apply for one accommodation site. However, within the application you can indicate that if you are unsuccessful in receiving an offer for your selected accommodation site, you would like to be considered for the alternative option at the same campus.
For example, you can submit an application for the Urban Community, and in this application you can indicate that if you are unsuccessful in receiving an offer for this type of accommodation you would like to be considered for the alternative accommodation option at the same campus, being the Residential Village.
I’m under 18, can I apply?
Yes, you can apply in the same way as those who are over 18 years of age, by submitting the online application.
If you are successful in receiving an offer of accommodation, and you are still under the age of 18 at this time, you and your parent/guardian will need to complete the Under 18 Accommodation Agreement as part of the offer Residency Agreement.
Can I apply for accommodation for semester one only?
You can only apply for a full year (42 or 48 week) contract at the time of application. However, if there is a reason that you will only be enrolled for one semester you can indicate this in your application. We will verify your enrolment status and in limited circumstances, may be able to offer you a semester one contract, however this cannot be guaranteed.
This is my final semester and I will graduate after semester one. Can I apply to live on campus for semester one only?
When submitting your application, you will be asked if you are expecting to graduate mid year. If you are successful in being offered accommodation, we will verify your enrolment status and once confirmed, we will be able to offer you a semester one agreement.
Can I apply for semester two only
Yes. Applications for semester two will open in March.
Can I transfer my application to next semester/year?
Full year applications open in September and semester two applications open in March.
You cannot transfer a full year application to the following year. You will need to submit a new application for the following year, at the start of September.
I have submitted my application, when will I know the outcome?
Please refer to the application process and key dates. If you have submitted an application, we will communicate with you via email regarding the status of your application.
Can I apply for single gender accommodation?
While our halls are mixed, all gender, there are some limited, gender specific areas/floors/clusters within some halls/residences. You may also consider applying for the shared flat style accommodation at either the Clayton or Peninsula campus, as often all rooms in a flat are allocated to residents of the same gender.
In your application you can add your preference for a single gender flat in the ‘'additional preferences/requests' section. Alternatively, you can email accommodation@monash.edu and we can update your application with your preference.
In all halls and flats, everyone has their own private lockable bedroom.
How can I apply for a refurbished bedroom with a private bathroom?
If it is important for you to have a private bathroom you should apply for a studio apartment.
In the Traditional Halls of Residence, there are only a very limited number of rooms with private bathrooms so it may be difficult for us to offer you this preference. If this is your preference please advise us in the comment section of your application or email accommodation@monash.edu
Can I live with my friends?
All bedrooms are single occupancy. However, you can include a preference in your online application to be allocated with your friends to the same hall, shared flat, or shared apartment.
Both you and your friends must each include the same preferences to be allocated the in the same accommodation.
We will do our best to meet accommodate preferences. However, this can't be guaranteed.
Can I choose my room and hall?
If you apply for the Halls of Residence you can list your top three hall preferences in your application.
If you apply for a studio apartment you will not provide your hall preferences in your application. If you receive and accept an offer for a studio apartment, you may be invited to select your preferred studio apartment during studio selection, depending on when your offer acceptance deadline is.
We will do our best to try and meet your preferences, however we are bound by availability and terms and conditions and cannot guarantee that your first preference will be met.
Can I provide my specialist accessible accommodation requirements in my application?
Yes of course. There is a section in the application where you can advise of any specialist accessibility accommodation requirements as advised by your health practitioner, designated service provider or other relevant professional.
I have other individual requests or preferences, how can I provide this information?
If you were unable to provide all of your preferences in your application please email accommodation@monash.edu, along with your application reference number and we will add these preferences to your application.
We will do our best to try and meet your preferences, however we are bound by availability, and terms and conditions and cannot guarantee that your preference will be met.
Can I change my application preference?
Yes, and it's easy! Login to the Resident Portal and update your preferences online.
