Social Entrepreneurship Challenge in the Indo-Pacific (SECIP)

Are you interested in building an innovative social enterprise alongside students from around the Indo-Pacific? Monash Arts offers an intensive virtual program designed to give you real-world experience working with an international, interdisciplinary team, you will be guided through an entirely virtual incubator with the support of leading industry mentors and academics.

Over the course of two weeks, you will attend structured workshops, seminars, skills development and mentor sessions to identify a challenge, test your assumptions, make, break and re-create a solution and then pitch your solution and enterprise to a panel of experts.

You will gain insight into the world of entrepreneurship and how it can be used in different contexts as a realistic model to create genuine and sustainable change. Please refer below for a list of FAQs related to the SECIP program.

For undergraduate students:
1. ATS2170
Enrolment Rule: Must have completed 12 credit points of first year Arts units or 48 credit points from first year units from any Faculty. Prohibition: ATS3170
2. ATS3170
Enrolment Rule: Must have completed 12 credit points of first year Arts units or 48 credit points from first year units from any Faculty. Prohibition: ATS2170
For postgraduate coursework students:
3. APG5170
Enrolment Rule: Must be enrolled in a Masters by Coursework. Prohibition: Must have not undertaken ATS2170 and ATS3170 at undergraduate level.
It is delivered exclusively online in partnership with universities around the Indo-Pacific. Sessions are held for 3-4 hours every weekday over the two week program period. All students are expected to have a reliable internet connection and working webcam and engage in online sessions with cameras on (when necessary).
This program will only include your standard Monash unit cost (depending on the unit you enrol into and depending on your residency/visa status). As it’s delivered online, it has no additional costs involved.
Faculty of Arts undergraduate courses

**Note: Please check with your individual faculty if you have space to undertake this unit as a free elective within your non-arts degree before applying.
No, you can’t retake more than 1 SECIP unit.
Undergraduate students: Please refer to the Monash handbook to check the enrolment rules and prohibitions for ATS2170 and ATS3170.
Postgraduate coursework students: You can’t undertake APG5170 if you’ve previously completed the undergraduate counterparts. Please refer to the Monash handbook to check the enrolment rules and prohibitions for APG5170.
The program will run from 29 June to 10 July 2026. The class times will be 1:30pm - 5:00pm (Melbourne time) every weekday during this period. Students must be available to attend all classes.

As a general rule, you can undertake a maximum of 12 credit points across both the Summer A and Summer B intake. SECIP units are 6 credit points worth. If you are enrolled in another 6 credit point Summer unit, you must ensure that the teaching dates and times don’t clash with your SECIP unit.
These units are WES-barred. Enrolment is via application only.
Applications for the Winter semester 2026 has closed. The next intake will be in Summer B Semester 2027 and applications will open around early September 2026.
Please note that strictly no late applications will be accepted after the closing date.
IMPORTANT: the application form requires you to be logged into your Monash Student account in Gmail. If the form gives you an error message about not having permission, you need to log out of all Gmail accounts, then log into only your Monash Student account, before trying again.
Yes, the faculty will maintain a waitlist depending on the number of applications received each intake. If you are on the waitlist, you will be notified via an email when application outcomes are sent out.
Waitlisted applicants will receive an email if a spot becomes available in the unit. You will have 24 hours to respond to the email and confirm your acceptance before it’s offered to the next applicant on the waitlist
If you don’t receive an email a week before the teaching for the SECIP unit commences, please note that you haven’t received a spot for the intake.
The first 20 waitlisted applicants who didn’t receive an offer in an intake, will receive a guaranteed place in the next intake IF they are close to being course completed within 6 months of the next intake.

While we can't guarantee an offer, we will try to prioritise eligible applicants who are closer to completing their course requirements when sending offers.
You are welcome to reapply if you have space within your course but we are unable to defer your offer to the next intake. Spots in this program are limited, please accept the offer only if you can commit to it.
