Global Summer Programs
Global Summer Programs
Fancy travelling overseas and participating in some awesome immersive classes for credit during your Summer Break? A Global Summer Program is a short-term overseas learning opportunity that is timed to fit within the winter or summer break.
There are two different participation modes for summer and winter schools - namely Exchange and Study Abroad.
The modes determine how you are enrolled, and how costs and fees are paid.
Exchange Programs
You pay tuition fees to Monash. You will pay all other associated program and administration fees directly to the host. For the duration of your program, you will be enrolled in Exchange unit codes.
Study Abroad Programs
You are responsible for paying all associated fees, generally directly to the host institution. For the duration of your program, you will be enrolled in Study Abroad unit codes.
The full list of available programs can be found on the 'Program Options' tab.
Do not apply directly to a partner institution until after you have been approved by Monash Abroad and your faculty (see 'How to Apply' tab).

Managing your Safety
Ensuring your health and safety while overseas is a shared responsibility between Monash and you, the traveller.
Monash is committed to ensuring that our programs are COVID-safe by adhering to local regulations and developing COVID-safe plans. Before completing this part of the application for this program, you should be familiar with how we will manage the risk of COVID-19 disruptions and support your safety.
Staff and participants must familiarise themselves with Monash's COVID Safe Plan and the strategies to protect themselves and each other:
- Come to campus/activities well - Only attend activities if you are well. You may be directed to take a COVID-19 test if you are unwell and be required to isolate until you have recovered.
- Physical distancing - Adhere to local physical distancing rules.
- Masks - Wear masks when required and/or when physical distancing cannot be achieved.
- Personal hygiene - Hand washing and hand sanitizer to be made available and used regularly.
- Increased cleaning - We will work with providers to ensure cleaning standards are high among our providers.
- Well ventilated spaces - Windows and doors will be open during group activities (where possible).
- Positive case management - If you are unwell, you will be supported to obtain a COVID-19 test and a staff member will ensure you have access to support.
Important note: you may be required to take a COVID-19 test before travelling internationally by the airline or government of destination country/ies. If you test positive, you may not be able to travel as planned, which could delay your arrival at your destination. If this occurs in the host location our staff and partners will support you until you recover and are able to travel.
If you are not able to adhere to the safety practices and still wish to apply, please contact Monash Connect.

While on this program you will be covered by the Monash student travel insurance which includes access to Global 24 emergency assistance (+61 2 9312 5191). Other emergency contact details are available via Monash Abroad.
Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for managing your safety and wellbeing by completing all programmatic requirements and taking action on advice provided.

- Subscribe to travel alerts for your destination country/ies via the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Smartraveller website.
- Review the Travel health, safety and security advice on the Monash Abroad website.
- Visit your doctor to discuss your travel plans and ensure you can effectively manage your health while you are away.

IMPORTANT - Do not pay any deposits (where relevant), or organise flights until you have received Monash Abroad approval. Monash Abroad will not be held responsible for any costs incurred as a result of an unsuccessful application.
Prior to signing up to any program, please complete a ‘Course Advice Request’ to ensure you have room in your course map.
How to Apply
Step 1: Submit the application form
Submit your application here. You must complete the form by the Monash application deadline.
- Read the instructions on the form and complete the fields not already containing your information from the Monash student system.
- In the Proposed Summer Program section, select the program from the dropdown menu in which you are interested (e.g. 'Hanken and LUSEM Nordic Winter School (EXC)').
- Open the Summer Study Plan in another tab.
- Complete the rest of the application form, read, confirm and agree to the statements in the Conditions, then submit the form by the deadline.
Note that your application will not be considered until you have submitted your study plan.
Step 2: Submit your study plan
Return to the Summer Study Plan, which you must complete and submit as your faculty(ies)/school(s) must approve the unit(s) for credit to your Monash degree(s).
- Read the instructions on the form and complete the fields not already containing your information from the Monash student system.
- Using the information listed in the Global Summer Program brochure, choose the name of the program you want to study overseas from the drop down list.
- Then enter the details of the unit(s) you want to study overseas. You must list one unit, but can add up to an additional three if you want to or have to.
- Submit the form by the deadline.
Until both the study plan and the application form are submitted, your application will not be considered.
Your study plan will then be assessed by your faculty/school. Once that is done, Monash Abroad will contact you, letting you know the outcome of your application.
Step 3: Applying to the Host Institution
If completing an ‘Exchange’ program, Monash Abroad will nominate you directly to the partner institution. You will be sent additional instructions on how to apply following the review of your study plan by your faculty/school.
If completing a ‘Study Abroad’ program, after you’ve been accepted by Monash Abroad and your faculty/school, you will apply directly to the host institution via their program website.
Step 4: Acceptance
Once you have applied to the host institution, keep an eye out for their acceptance information. When you receive your acceptance document, check it carefully to make sure details about your application are correct, such as your name, date of birth, contact information and what you applied to do. If there are any mistakes, contact the host institution immediately. If the acceptance documents are correct, forward them to Monash Abroad.
The acceptance will be checked again and, if correct, the process for finalising your program, paying your Travel Grant, if relevant, and changing your enrolment will be triggered.
Tuition fees
If completing a Study Abroad program, you are responsible for paying the tuition fee directly to the host institution. As you will be enrolled into a Study Abroad program, enrolment at Monash will be in a placeholder unit only; there will be no fees charged for this program at Monash. The tuition fee paid to the host institution cannot be deferred via FEE-HELP.
Students participating in an Exchange program will be enrolled in an exchange placeholder unit, which does charge you the standard Monash unit fee, and you pay that as you would normally. There will be no tuition fees charged by the host institution, but there may be other fees, such as program fees for things like excursions. These are paid to the host institution.
