English Requirements
Monash University’s minimum English language proficiency requirements for students applying for Exchange or Study Abroad
If you plan to enrol in an exchange or study abroad program at Monash University, you must show how you meet the minimum English language proficiency entry requirement. You can do so in one of the following ways:
English language medium institutions
- Completion of your final four years of secondary (high) schooling at an institution that teaches entirely in English. This must be attested through the provision of secondary school certificate/results/transcripts.
- Completion of study in an English medium program (university/tertiary education) which is equivalent to at least 48 Monash credit points or one year of full-time study. You must provide evidence of enrolment in an English medium program.
English language medium courses
Completion of study in a course (degree) at university/tertiary level which is equivalent to at least 48 Monash credit points or one year of full-time study and is taught and assessed entirely in English. You must provide evidence of enrolment in the degree and that it is taught and assessed entirely in English.
English language tests
Achievement of the minimum scores for any of the Monash University approved English language tests below within two years of the start date of your program at Monash:

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages System (CEFR)
Exchange or study abroad students can satisfy the English language requirements with a certificate of English language proficiency provided by their home institution on its official letterhead with a minimum overall grade of C1 according to the Common European Framework.

Monash University recognises the results for English studies at secondary/high school in the following countries and tests:

The qualifications will be valid for five years prior to the start date of your program at Monash University.
Where the qualification was completed more than five years ago, you can show evidence of having maintained your English skills by having successfully completed a tertiary education unit taught and assessed entirely in English in the last two years prior to the date of commencement of the Monash University exchange or study abroad program.
